The Desert Estate Sales Process: Phase 2, Setup & Pricing

Turning Your Home into a Store (Without Losing Its Soul)

There comes a magical moment during every estate sale setup.

One minute it looks like someone’s home.

The next minute it feels like a carefully curated boutique.

That transformation doesn’t happen by accident.

Our job isn’t simply putting price tags on everything. It’s creating an experience where buyers can actually see what they’re buying.

Kitchen items belong together.

Books deserve their own space.

Garage treasures should stay in the garage whenever possible.

Furniture needs room to breathe.

Good staging helps people imagine items in their own homes.

One of my favorite sales was in Cathedral City.

The owners had collected everything imaginable—from Barbie dolls and beautiful crystal to gay erotica.

Yes… we handled it all.

So to speak.

Instead of trying to hide the variety, we celebrated it. Collectors love discovering unexpected treasures, and when everything is displayed thoughtfully, people buy far more than they originally planned.

Then there was the Lennox china.

The family had been trying to sell their grandmother’s complete set for three years without success.

Three years.

It sold on the first day of the estate sale—and for more than any of us expected.

Sometimes the difference isn’t the item.

It’s putting the right item in front of the right buyer at the right time.

Pricing is part research, part market knowledge and part understanding what today’s buyers actually want.

The goal isn’t simply to price things.

The goal is to sell them.
