The Desert Estate Sales Process: Phase 3, Marketing

If Nobody Knows About Your Sale, Nobody Shows Up

Here’s an estate sale truth.

The world’s greatest collection doesn’t matter if nobody knows it’s there.

Marketing is where the excitement begins.

We photograph the best items, highlight unusual collections and create listings that encourage people to rearrange their weekend plans.

Serious collectors often study estate sale listings days before the sale opens.

They’re looking for tools because they’re in construction.

Mid-century furniture or something practical for the family room.

Designer clothing or T-Shirts they can resell on Ebay or Etsy.

Fine china they collect or useful dishes for Thanksgiving.

Artwork especially modern or mid-century

Jewelry whether it’s real or costume.  And sterling.  People are going crazy over silver.

Or something they didn’t even know they wanted until they saw the photographs.

One of my favorite Cathedral City stories involved a complete set of the Kabbalah.

It found exactly the right buyer.

The funny part?

The same customer also left with a pile of bargain tools from the garage.

Estate sales are wonderfully unpredictable.

That’s the joy of bringing together hundreds of different items under one roof.

Great marketing doesn’t promise perfection.

It promises discovery.

And that’s exactly why so many people come back sale after sale.
